Educational Field Trips & Group Tours

Give your students and eye-opening, hands-on experience. Plan your next educational field trip at Cave of the Winds. We offer a variety of cave activities for kids that offer a fun, interactive experience for kids and teachers of all ages.

Bats & Caves-Part I
This exciting, interactive program is designed for Preschool aged children. The program includes a cave creatures and bat presentation and workshop, a geology lab held in our underground lab, and a modified, kid-friendly tour of the cave. Cave formations, as well as how the cave system was formed, is explained as you explore the mountain from the inside out!

The program is available September through May, Monday through Friday, at $6 per person. One teacher or chaperone is free with every 15 paid students. Groups of less than 15 may pay a flat fee of $90 to participate in this program. The maximum number of people allowed per group is 75. It is suggested that reservations be made at least two weeks in advance to better the chance of getting your preferred date. Take this program between December and February and pay only $4 per person, or a flat fee of $60 for groups of less than 15.

Bats & Caves-Part II

Groups of less than 15 may pay a flat fee of $105 to participate in this program. The maximum number of people allowed per group is 75. It is suggested that reservations be made at least two weeks in advance to better the chance of getting your preferred date. Take this program between December and February and pay only $5 per person, or a flat fee of $75 for groups of less than 15.

Underground Adventures
This field experience is designed to challenge middle school students in grades 5 through 8. The program consists of an extended, 1½ hour tour of the cave and a geology lab.

In our cave classroom, we discuss Colorado geology with an emphasis on caves and cave formations. The group investigates cave formations by touring Cave of the Winds.

Students will need to bring a flashlight for the highlight of the program, which takes place in the Manitou Grands section of Cave of the Winds, the location of some of the most active passages of the cave. Expect clothing to be slightly dirty.

The program is available September through May, Monday through Friday, at $9 per person. One teacher or chaperone is free with every 15 paid students. Groups of less than 15 may pay a flat fee of $135 to participate in this program. The maximum number of people allowed per group is 60. It is suggested that reservations are made at least two weeks in advance to better the chance of getting your preferred date. Take this program between December and February and pay only $7 per person, or a flat fee of $105 for groups of less than 15.

Caving 101
Cave of the Winds offers high school and other youth groups an exciting off-trail caving experience. Explore undeveloped sections of the Manitou Grand Caverns while climbing and crawling through passageways by flashlight. Knowledgeable guides provide the groups with 2 hours of good, clean, muddy fun as well as adventure and amazement underground.

The program is available September through May, Monday through Friday, at $25 per person, by reservation only. Groups must have 15 with a maximum of 40. Saturday tours are available on a limited basis. It is suggested that reservations be made at least two weeks in advance to better the chance of getting your preferred date. There is a minimum charge of $375 for groups of less than 15. Everyone must bring a flashlight and a change of clothes. The cave is often muddy and crawling is required. Take this program between December and February and pay only $20 per person, or a minimum of $300 for groups of less than 15.

Subterranean Summer
Escape the summer heat with this kid-friendly tour designed especially for kids aged kindergarten through 6th grade. This memorable summer program lasts about an hour and offers tidbits of information on geology, the importance of bats, and an emphasis on FUN!

This program is offered June through August, Monday through Friday, at 10 a.m. and noon, at $7 per person. One teacher or chaperone is free with every 15 paid students. Groups of less than 15 may pay a flat fee of $105 to participate in the program. The maximum number of people allowed per group is 50. It is suggested that reservations are made at least two weeks in advance to better the chance of getting your preferred date.
