Cave Conservation

Cave Conservation for Everyone
Caves take millions of years to form, so if something in them is broken or damaged, they can’t just grow back overnight! That means people must be very careful about how they use caves. A very popular saying about caving is: take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time.

Caves are important for humans—caves shelter many animals that help our ecosystem, and caves give scientists many facts and clues about earth science. And yet, man is sometimes a cave’s worst enemy—vandalism and water pollution can harm caves beyond repair.

The best thing to remember about a cave is that it’s non-renewable, which means that it can’t be made again. So when you cave, remember the important phrase: take nothing but picture, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time. And enjoy the cave because it is an amazing thing!
